Sometimes I get caught up in things being black in white… I see things simpler than a lot of people do and for that I think life has become more enjoyable.
Life is not complicated; we just make it that way to seem interesting.
Success is simple.
Happiness is simple.
Love is simple.
I read a poem today that I wanted to share with you before we get into things. It’s a classic! By Robert Frost called The Road Not Taken
The Road Not Taken
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim
Because it was grassy and wanted wear,
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I marked the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
Robert Frost
When it all comes down to it, there are really only two roads in life.
Road 1: The path of the approval seeker.
This is the path of an average 9-5 to retirement worker. This path is one that is chosen by those who play it safe and stay within the defined guidelines of what is expected in life. If you find that there is something you have always desired to do in life, and consciously choose not to…this is the path you’ve chosen. This is the path of the person who picks a college major because “it makes more money” than what they love. This is the person who stays in a dead end job because it’s “stable”. This is a person who asks their parent, spouse, friend, etc. for permission to live.
These people live in reaction to fear and let life happen to them.
Road 2: The path of the dream chaser.
This is the path of the entrepreneur, the small business owner, or the person who chooses to pursue their passion even if there is not a big paycheck promised at the end. This is the non-profit worker who gives everything they have because they love it. This is the 5pm-12am entrepreneur who works every night after work and every weekend instead of watching TV. This is the person who drops their high paying job to take a lower paying job doing what they love.
These people live in spite of fear and make life happen for them.
There are two roads in life.
Either you do what is expected or you do what you love.
Which road do you take?
Everybody dies but very few people live.
Thrive or Die
